The Church To Observe July 17 As Protest Day

Kottayam July 14 2005: The joint meeting of the Holy Episcopal Synod of the Church and the Working Committee held at Devalokam, on Wednesday has decided to seek steps against the National Commission for Minorities (NCM).

Holy Synod alleged that the Commission had "twisted facts through its unilateral expression of opinions given to the media." The Holy Synod said the statement of the Commission went against directives of the Supreme Court. It decided to seek possibilities of taking steps against it. A meeting of the Holy Synod and the Working Committee is scheduled on July 28 for this purpose.

The Synod also has extended its support to Dr. Mathews Mar Severios and the members of the Kolenchery Church for filing a case against those " who had forcibly entered the Kolencherry church" and decided to observe July 17 as `protest day' against the Government action.

The Holy Synod had decided to appoint Chor-Episcopos Jacob Mannaraprayil in a suitable position honoring his services for the last 35 years to the Church.

His Holiness the Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews II presided over the Joint meeting. The Holy Synod and the Working Committee was attended by .the Catholicos Elect Thomas Mar Thimothios, Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, Mathews Mar Epiphanios, Kuriakose mar Clemis, Dr .Mathews Mar Severios, Dr. Yakob Mar Ireanios, Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios, Dr. Zachariahs Mar Theophilos, Augen Mar Dionysius, Fr. Dr.O. Thomas, Dr.Alexander karakal, A.K.thomas, A.M.Philip, Fr.Dr.K.M.george and Fr. Sunny Thomas
