Kottayam June 23 2004:
As decided earlier Sabha Managing committee had their session
today at 10am at Old Seminary. His Holiness the Catholicos
presided over the meeting.
Today the managing committee made recommendations to the Holy
Episcopal Synod to appoint the newly ordained Bishops with the
following dioceses.
Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios - Thiruvananthapuram Diocese
Dr. Zachariah mar Theophilos - Malabar Asst.
Dr. Yoohanon Mar Chrisostomos - Niranam Asst.
Augen Mar Dionysius - Idukki & Ankamali East
These proposals will be discussed in the concluding session of
the Holy Episcopal Synod tomorrow and finalized.
Managing Committee was so reluctant to send their elected
representatives to the Working Committee of the church which is
the advisory body of the Catholicos. After a long debate they
finally decided to elect 4 members from Managing committee to
represent them in the working committee.
Following are the members elected to the Working Committee.
Fr. Sunny Thomas -Sultan Bathery Diocese
Prof. E. Jacob John - Niranam Diocese
A. M .Philip -Thumpamon Diocese
Prof. M. P. Mathai -Muvattupuzha
Transfer and retirement of
Bishops was also a heat topic in the morning session. "It is
unconstitutional for there is no constitutional provision for
this to decide, we are aware of the fact. Still we ask the
president to include this topic in the agenda and amend the
constitution" majority requested. Finally His Holiness the
Catholicos agreed to include the subject in the coming session
which is scheduled for October.
Because of the tight security, Almaya Vedi group from Ankamali
was waiting out side the gate of Old Seminary to get a decision
on Bishops transfer issue. Now it is reported that they had
moved to Devalokam Aramana. and staged 'dharna' there.
Managing Committee also elected Fr.Thomas Kokkaparampil, M. M.
Zachariah and Roy M. Mathew Muthoot to the governing body of Mar
Baselios Public School.
