KOTTAYAM: Classes at the Old Seminary, Kottayam have temporarily been suspended due to flooding on Aug 6, 2013.
Heavy rainfalls over the past days coupled with the opening of the flood gates of the Idukki dam as well as landslides in Idukki area are believed to be the reasons for the unexpected rising of water levels at the Seminary premises.
The road from Chungam Junction leading to the Seminary is clogged under 3 feet depth of water making transporation to and from the Seminary virtually impossible. Houses in the neighbourhood have been severly affected due to the over flooding of the River Meenachil.
Taking into consideration issues such as transportation, accessibility to ammenities and health and safety, Seminary Warden and Chaplain Fr. Dr. Yuhanon Ramban, in consensus with principal Fr. Dr. Jacob Kurian, announced that classes would be suspended. It is expected that water levels may fall over the next 4 to 5 days. Re-opening information will be released later.
