House approves Sandy aid for churches

New York: Churches, synagogues, and mosques damaged during Super-storm Sandy will be allowed to file for federal disaster aid under a bill approved this afternoon by the House of Representatives.

Lawmakers voted 354-72 in favor of the bill, which now goes to the Senate for final approval.

The bill’s backers said worship centers, which continued to serve their communities despite suffering damage during the storm, deserved government help to recover.
