St George Church, Nashik conducted Kidney Disease Detection Camp

NASHIK: St George Orthodox Church, Nashik had conducted a Kidney Disease Detection Camp, on Sunday, January 13, 2013 after the Holy Qurbana.
The medical camp was led by Dr. Urmila Anandh, a well-known Nephrologist of Asia, from Kolila Ben Hospital, Mumbai.
Dr. Urmila Anandh, the chief medical officer at the camp told that almost 250 thousand people die of kidney failure in India every year and is the third largest killer after malignancy and heart disease. Millions suffer from, some form of kidney disease and many of them, particularly in India, cannot afford the cost of treatment or care. A person suffering from kidney failure can survive only when he or she undergoes dialysis or kidney transplantation.
“The Holy Episcopal Synod of the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church had decided to start a Kidney Foundation to serve the Indian Orthodox Community with awareness and prevention program for kidney and related ailments. The Diocesan Metropolitan of Bombay, Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, urged the Diocesan vicars and church committees to take the issue seriously and to conduct awareness and prevention programs at the parish level. Nashik Church is one of the first Parishes of Bombay Diocese conducted this program” . said FrThomas Philipose, the vicar of the Nashik Church
