Mar Demetrios of Delhi Diocese condoled

DELHI: “We learn the news about the passing away of the young girl in Singapore, a victim of the heinous crime, with utmost shock” said Dr. Youhanon Mar Demetrios, Metropolitan of Delhi Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

“It has cast a sense of gloom and shame over the whole of country as Orthodox Christians in India joins in prayers to mourn the sad event. We convey our deepest condolences to the members of the family and the millions of well meaning citizens who have come to be identified themselves with the victim and for the cause of safety for woman in the country’ the Metropolitan added.

The Metropolitan also said that the church also joins with the right-thinking people in demanding the strengthening of laws on crimes against women to uphold the dignity and safety of the women, weak and marginalized in the society.

Mar Demetrios reminded the faithful that its not just for the government but each one of us have a duty to timely act and ensure this and to uphold this situation in the country in our prayers and keep all our celebrations a prayerful and solemn one in such challenging conditions .
