MUSCAT : “Jesus Christ was a real saviour for the mankind and He led by example,” said Mar Yohannan Yoseph Episcopa, Bishop of the Holy Catholic Assyrian Church of the East in India (Chaldean Syrian Church) in his Christmas message at the Ecumenical Christmas Carol 2012.
“We all have our shortcomings but our real capability lies in overcoming and transforming them to worthiness thereby striving to make our lives different,” the Bishop of the Chaldean Syrian Church remarked as the chief guest during the Ecumenical night at St Thomas Church in Oman, Ruwi.
Mar Yohannan Yoseph Episcopa mentioned that true ecumenical Christian unity was similar to what St Paul had said like different parts of one body. “I will be who I will be and let us accept. Let us adhere and change to the saying of Late Dr Poulose Mar Poulose Episcopa,” he pointed out. The Bishop delivered Athyunnathangalil daivathinu mahathwam in Syriac
Mar Yohannan Yoseph Episcopa who received the Episcopal Consecration in January 2010 from Maran Mar Dinkha IV, has a Masters in Syriac Language and Literature and presently is a research student of Mahatma Gandhi University in Syriac Language and Literature.
Rev Mathew P Thomas, Vicar, Mar Thoma Church in Oman delivered the presidential address, Fr Joji George Koickalethu, Vicar, Muscat Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka made the welcome speech and opening prayer was by Rev Mathews P Oommen, Vicar, St James CSI Church. Fr Mathew Erathil, Asst Parish Priest, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church offered the offertory prayer and closing prayer by Fr Ninan Thomas, Vicar, St Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church.
The highlight of the evening along with carol singing was the Maargam Kali by Knanaya Jacobite Church. The offertory carol was on “Aattidayar Raathrikaale”.
Fr Binu John Thomas, Associate Vicar, Muscat Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka, Fr Varghese George, Fr Jiji Punnose, Knanaya Jacobite Church, Fr Gigi V Mathew, St Paul’s Mar Thoma Church, Ghala, Dr Chona Thomas also attended.
E I Rajan, Joint Convenor (Treasurer), presented a memento to Mar Yohannan Yoseph Episcopa.
John Thomas (Santhosh), Secretary, Ecumenical Committee, proposed a vote of thanks. The programme ended with benediction.
