Parish Harvest Festival and Catholicate Centenary celebrations ended in Kuwait

KUWAIT: St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Maha Edavaka celebrated its annual Harvest Festival and the Closing Ceremony of Catholicate Centenary on Friday 16 November 2012, with great pomp and splendor.
The event started with the “Deepashikha Prayanam” at 8:30 am, from St George Chapel, Abbassiya and was followed by a procession showcasing the diversity of the Indian Culture with particular emphasis on traditional art forms.
The Public meeting was graced by Dr. Joshua Mar Nichodimos, Metropolitan of Nilackal Diocese as Chief Guest. Metropolitan appreciated the continuous support offered by the Parish for the past 50 years for uplifting the less fortunate and ignored, and reminded the need to re-define the vision on charity that should include not only monetary support, but moral support as well, considering the fast changing social set-up and life style.
Vidhu P. Nair (Charge D’Affairs, Indian Embassy) inaugurated the festivities by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries. He congratulated the parish members for being one of the most thriving and peaceful Groups inKuwait, holding the traditions of their ancestors, within the framework of the local rules & regulations.
P.C. George (Chief Whip, Govt. of Kerala), Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Makarios (Episcopa of Marthoma Syrian Church), Rev. Binju Varghese Kuruvilla, Fr. Kurien John, Fr. Saju Philip and Fr. K.V. Simon delivered felicitation speeches.
To commemorate the occasion, a Souvenir was released by Fr. Joji K. Joy, Vice Principal of Sasthasmkotta Bible School. A revised ‘Parish Directory’ incorporating the personal details of all registered members of the Parish was released by Dr. Joshua Mar Nichodimos.
Music, dances, skits and other cultural items presented by various groups of the parish members as well as rendering by four Choirs of the parish were enjoyed by all. Raffle draws, American auction & Games offered valuable prizes. Food stalls serving home-made delicacies as well as fast-food were open throughout the day.
The program continued with Group Dance competition for children in which The Zero Gravity Team, Angel Dance Team & Speed Shadow teams won first, second and Third positions respectively. Cine star Ms. Muktha was the chief judge of the competition.
The afternoon session of comedy show and musical extravaganza lead by popular Film-Mini Screen celebrities – Rimi Tomi, Sajan Palluruthy, Suby, Jins and Samad – was the highlight of the event. The full day program was well organized and enjoyed by thousands from all walks of life.
Parish Vicar Fr. Jose Mathew welcomed the gathering and General Convener Ninan Joseph proposed vote of thanks.
