MELBOURNE: Dr Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan of Madras Diocese of the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church, on His visit to Australia, arrived in Melbourne on 22nd September2012.
Metropolitan Mar Diascoros was received the at the Melbourne International airport by Vicar Fr. Shinu K Thomas, Assistant Vicar Fr. Charlsmon Philipose and Managing Committee Members of St. Mary’s Indian Orthodox Cathedral.
A rousing reception was given to the Metropolitan at the Cathedral with lighted candles.. Thereafter Mar Diascoros led the evening prayer which was followed by devotional message.
On Sunday 23 September, for Holy Qurbana Metropolitan Mar Diascoros was the chief-celebrant. A public meeting was also held to celebrate the centenary of the establishment of Catholicate in India. Sunday school children presented various programmes at the function. To mark the Catholicate centenary year, Vicar presented a cheque to purchase 5cents of land for the Andaman and Nichobar Catholicate centenary charity project. On Sunday evening the Metropolitan visited St. Gregorios Chapel, led the evening prayer and delivered a devotional message.
A dinner-meeting with, Dr Joseph Mar Barnabas (Marthoma Church) and Clergies of STEFM Churches (St. Thomas Ecumenical Fellowship of Melbourne) was organised. Metropolitan Mar Diascoros visited the Anglican monastery, “St. Mark’s Benedictine Abbey” at Camper Down and also visited Suriel, Metropolitan of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
