PERUNADU: Thousands of faithful paid their last respects to Paulose Mar Pachomios, the metropolitan of Mavelikkara diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church, whose mortal remains were laid to rest at Ranni-Perunad Bethany Ashram chapel on Thursday.
Catholicos and supreme head of Malankara Orthodox Church HH Baselios Marthoma Paulose II led the funeral ceremony.
Kuriakose Mar Clemis, Thomas Mar Athanasios, Dr. Mathews Mar Severios, Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios, Dr. Joseph Mar Devanasios, Geevarghese Mar Policarpus, Dr. Yakob Mar Ireneos, Dr. Joshua Mar Nikodimos, Mathews Mar Thevodosios, Dr. Yuhanon Mar Thevodorus, Dr. Abraham Mar Zeraphim, Dr. Zacharias Mar Aprem, Dr. Yuhanon Mar Milithios and Yakob Mar Elias were the other metropolitans who participated in the funeral ceremony.
Water Resources Minister P J Joseph represented the State Government at the funeral ceremony.
DCC president P Mohanraj, on behalf of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, placed a wreath on the body.
MPs Anto Antony and Kodikunnil Suresh, MLAs Raju Abraham and K Sivadasan Nair and district panchayat president Babu George were among those who attended the funeral. Hundreds of faithful gathered on the entire funeral procession route despite the hartal between Mavelikara and Ranni-Perunad, touching Pandalam, Thumpamon, Pathanamthitta, Mylapra and Vadasserikara.
At Pathanamthitta Municipal Town Hall, thousands of people paid their last respects to the metropolitan when the procession carrying the mortal remains reached there.
