RAJKOT, Gujarat : The first regional conference of the Gujarat Region MGOCSM was held on July 14, 15 2012 at St Thomas School, Rajkot.
The theme for the conference was based on “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. (St Matthew 11:28).
The conference was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Fr George Varghese (Vice President MGOCSM – Ahmedabad Diocese) and Williams Koshy (Regional Coordinator – Gujarat Region).
About 110 delegates attended the conference. Delegates who attended include from Gujarat and representatives from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh MGOCSM.
Prof Jacob Mathew, visiting faculty IIM Ahmedabad and John Jeshudasan, a senior MGOCSM member from Mumbai Diocese, were the chief speakers for the conference.
Earlier, the conference began with the inaugural ceremony which was attended by Fr Jacob Mathew (Diocesan Secretary), Fr Thomas Jose Vicar-Rajkot Parish), Fr George Varghese, Fr Anil (Marthoma Church), Prof Jacob Mathew and John Jeshudasan.
On the inaugural day, Prof Jacob Mathew spoke on enhancing one’s creativity and urged the students not to memorize from textbooks only but rather use both sides of the brain and think logically as well as creatively. He gave exercises that not only tested the creative thinking of students but improved their creativity as well.
John Jeshudasan speech highlighted on the conference theme and also conducted group discussions. These were related to the causes of stress to the youth and how can this be overcome. He also conducted Bible quiz based on the Gospel of St Mathew. Rev Fr Jacob Mathew took meditative class on the theme after the evening prayers.
The MGOCSM Ahmedabad Unit choir also organised a melodious session.
The concluding day of the conference (July 15) began with the Holy Eucharist which was led by Fr George Varghese.
Prof Jacob Mathew led the session after the Holy Eucharist. He spoke on empowering one’s employability. Fr Jacob made students realise that it was the non-verbal communication which was a “decisive factor” with regard to employability. The students thoroughly enjoyed and gained insights from both the sessions of Prof Jacob Mathew and John Jeshudasan.
Fr Thomas Jose and the Rajkot parishioners took extreme care to see the delegates and the guests were comfortable during their stay at the two-day conference.
The hard work of the MGOCSM Rajkot unit bore fruitful results. The conference will definitely act as a catalyst to brighten the functioning of MGOCSM of the nascent Ahmedabad Diocese under the leadership of Metropolitan Dr Pulikkottil Geevarghese Mar Yulios.
