Fr James Geevarghese Appointed Aramana Manager, Asst Vicar, St Mary’s Cathedral, Ahmedabad

MUSCAT: Rev Fr James Geevarghese will be the new Aramana Manager at St Thomas Bishops House, Naroda, Ahmedabad and will also be the Assistant Vicar St Mary’s Cathedral, Ahmedabad. He will take charge with effect from April 1, 2012.

Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan Pulikkottil HG Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios has in a Kalpana No 03/2012 relieved Fr James Geevarghese as Vicar of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka, Muscat with effect from March 31, 2012 and appointed him as the Aramana Manager.

Dr Mar Yulios has also appreciated Rev Fr James for his sincere service at Muscat Maha Edavaka during his four-year tenure and sought the full co-operation to the new Vicar in all matters concerned with the Parish ministry. During his tenure as Vicar from August 2008 to March 2012, Fr James lists some his important achievements as:

Declaration of Sohar as an independent Edavaka, declared Gala in Muscat as a congregation, organised Gulf Orthodox Youth Conference (GOYC) in 2009, declared Buraimi as an independent prayer group and Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church (MGOC) became a Maha Edavaka in 2011.

Fr James has served as priest since 1995 under Kolkotta Diocese till 2009 and shifts to Ahmedabad Diocese.

Brief profile:

Fr James was born in Rourkela, Orissa in 1967 with St Paul’s Orthodox Church, Rourkela as home parish. St George Orthodox Valliyapally, Chennitala, Eramathoor, under Niranam Diocese is his parental church.

Ordained as Deacon: May 25, 1994

Ordained as Priest: May 28, 1995

Marriage on May 8, 1995 to Ciji James (Kochamma). Christina Sarah James is the daughter.

Education: MA in English from Ravishankar University, Madhya Pradesh, B.Ed, GST (Graduate of Sacred Theology) and BD (Bachelor of Divinity).

Meanwhile, the Morth Mariyam Malankara Orthodox Congregation, Ghala held a farewell function for outgoing Rev Fr James Geevarghese at the Good Shepherd Hall on February 28.

Fr Binu John Thomas, Associate Vicar, Muscat Maha Edavaka, presented a memento on behalf of the congregation to Fr James as a token of love, affection and gratitude.

Fr Binu John Thomas delivered the presidential address and presided over the meeting. Secretary K C Thomas welcomed the gathering. Reji Philip, Joseph Mathew, Biju George representing different areas of Muscat under the congregation delivered felicitation speeches. Mathew Ninan, senior member of MGOME and Babu Varghese also felicitated Fr James Geevarghese.

Replying to felicitations, Fr James expressed his sincere thanks to all the congregation members for extending their co-operation during his tenure and for presenting the memento. The function ended with prayer and benediction.
