‘Holy Eucharist’ to be the main study at next IT meeting on March 4
BENGALURU: “We as humans have the right to let God know about all our problems but we shouldn’t be suggesting Him what should be the solution to it because that’s something God will provide.”
This was the main highlight of a talk delivered by Dr Abraham Mar Seraphim, Metropolitan, Bengaluru Diocese, at the montly-Bengaluru IT fellowship meeting which held its first session for 2012 at the Hosur Road Cathedral on January 29.
Dr Mar Seraphim addressed the techies by taking a chapter from the Gospel of St Mark 6:30–50. The Gospel of John Chapter 6 contains the miracle of loaves and fishes. Jesus feeds over 5,000 with bread and fish but offers them something far more valuable – The Bread of Life.
The Metropolitan spoke about the episode emphasizing on the usage of the word ‘crowd’ in the passage. ‘Crowd’ here suggests that the multitude who had gathered there weren’t related and hence were not from a community. The whole purpose of Jesus coming to earth was to make the ‘crowd’ a community and He laid the foundation that day for the same.
“Many times in life we seek the wrong bread, the physical bread that sustains our physical lives – a life that ends, when we should seek a life that never ends with the Bread of Life. We need to seek Jesus Christ who is the Bread of Life who gives us eternal life by the sacrifice of himself for us,” he explained.
Secondly, the Metropolitan emphasised about an easy solution suggested by the disciples in verses 35,36. “By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
Here the disciples are giving an easy solution to the problem by suggesting the crowd to fetch for themselves even when Jesus was with them. But Jesus here corrects the disciple’s and feeds the crowd with just 5 loaves and 2 fishes.
The Metropolitan explained the lesson to be learnt from the miracle. “We as humans have the right to let God know about all our problems but we shouldn’t be suggesting Him what should be the solution to it because that’s something God will provide.”
St Matthew 6:33 says: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” So it’s his kingdom and his righteousness that we should seek and rest will be showered on us.
Earlier, Johny Joseph read the verses from the Bible.
An interesting Q&A followed which His Grace enthusiastically replied.
Dr Mar Seraphim expressed his happiness about new personalities joining the fellowship meeting. The meeting agreed to have a study of the Holy Eucharist on March 4, Sunday, the next IT meeting.
