Dr Mar Seraphim takes part in rally for World Aids Day held by Dayabhavan

BENGALURU : On the occasion of World Aids Day (December 1), St Gregorios Daya Bhavan organised a rally and a public meeting at Kunigal near Tumkur.

Dr Abraham Mar Seraphim, Metropolitan, Bengaluru Diocese, flagged off the rally and addressed the gathering.

Earlier, the rally began from Sri Sapthagiri Hospital and concluded at the Shikshakara Bhavan in Kunigal. All those present in the hall undertook an oath to donate blood for a cause. Around 1,500 students from different institutions from Tumkur and nearby areas took part actively in the function.

Fr Jinesh K Varkey, Director of Daya Bhavan, organised the programme.

An attempt was made to create an awareness about Aids and a blood donation conducted on the theme “Getting To Zero.”

Later, in the main hall, Dr Mar Seraphim along with a Hindu sage lighted a ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the programme.

St Gregorios Dayabhavan is an initiative of Malanakara Orthodox Church Mission Board. It is a registered society under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960. The Mission Board of Malankara Orthodox Church began its battle against HIV/Aids by establishing the institution to advocate equitable access to quality HIV prevention, care and treatment services to all people living with or at risk.

While there are multiple projects being executed at Dayabhavan, the one that deserves special mention is the Dayabhavan Care and Support Centre for PLHA (People Living with HIV/Aids). Established in May 2006, the Dayabhavan Care and Support Centre have facilities to provide medical care, counseling services and rehabilitation for 10 PLHA.
