Mar Coorilos, Dr Mar Yulios, Dr Mar Seraphim to hold Holy-Tri-mass
3-day Family conference, Gospel convention, OVBS part of the valedictory
AHMEDABAD : 50 Golden years of existence to the Glory of God is worthy of celebration. Elevated as a Cathedral of the Orthodox Diocese of Ahmedabad by the Catholicos of the East in March 2011, the St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral, in Behrampura, Ahmedabad
is celebrating its Golden Jubilee valedictory on October 30, Sunday.
Metrpolitans Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Diocese of Mumbai, Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Diocese of Ahmedabad,Dr Abraham Mar Seraphim, Diocese of Bangalore and Rt Rev Thomas Macwan, Bishop of Ahmedabad, Catholic Church will bless the occasion with prayers and presence.
As a prelude to the valedictory, there will be a family conference consisting of retreat, meditation, seminars, counseling, Bible class, gospel convention by Sukadha Voice for parishioners and OVBS from October 27 to 29.
This will be inaugurated by Most Rev Stanislaus Fernandes, Archbishop, Gandhinagar on October 27 at 11 am.
On October 30, Geevarghese Mar Coorilos will lead the Holy Tri-mass at 8.15 am
This will be followed by felicitating initial members and elders of the Cathedral. There will be a public meeting in which Shri Asit Vora, Mayor of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will be the chief guest.
All the three Metropolitans including Rt Rev Thomas Macwan, Fr Dr O Thomas, (Faculty, Theological Seminary, Kottayam) and C K Koshy, IAS (Addl Chief Secretary, Retd), will be felicitated.
Dignitaries from various walks of life, heads and representatives from other Christian denominations will grace the function.
A website of the Cathedral will be inaugurated on the occasion followed by release of the Golden Jubilee Smaranika.
The public function will end with a love feast.
St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral was founded as a congregation in October 1960. It was elevated as an independent parish in Mary 1963. Having acquired its own parsonage in July 1973, it built its onw church building and consecrated in October 1975. The church was registered as a public charitable trust and society in February/March 1977. The church was retrofitted, and the reconstructed church was consecrated in January 2004 and later elevated as a Cathedral in March 2011.
The Cathedral has craved a name for itself in serving manking in various religious, philantrophic, educational, cultural and diversified fields.
