St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Ramachandrapuram to be consecrated on June 10

HYDERABAD: The supreme head of the orthodox Christians in India, Baselios Paulose II, will consecrate the renovated St. Mary’s church in Ramachandrapuram on June 10 Friday evening. The parish comes under Bangalore diocese.

Metropolitan of Cochin Diocese Dr.Yakoob Mar Irenius and the diocesan Metropolitan Dr.Abraham Mar Seraphim will be the co-celebrants on the occasion.

Metropolitan of Bangalore diocese Dr. Abraham Mar Seraphim said in a press conference in Hyderabad on Wednesday that the consecration ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, following which a public reception in honour of Baselios Paulose II will be held at 7.30 p.m. Minister for Women and Child Welfare Sunitha Lakshma Reddy will be the chief guest for the ceremony.

The second part of the consecration ceremony will be held from 6.30 a.m. on Saturday June 11, 2011, followed by Holy Qurbana.

The Orthodox Church, which has about 25 lakh followers in India, has four parishes in Hyderabad, one each in Gandhi Nagar, Secunderabad, Jeedimetla and Ramachandrapuram.

St. Mary’s Church in Ramachandrapuram was renovated at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore. Fr. Moncy P Chacko is the current vicar of the parish, under whose leadership the re construction work has been completed within an year.

    This is a milestone in the history of Indian Orthodoxy, a great achivement for the diocse, a blessing for the city of Hyderabad, and a proud moment for Orthodox community in H’bad.
