Rs 3.17 Cr as Catholicate Day Collection in 2010

KOTTAYAM: Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Catholicate Day Collection 2010 gathered Rs 3.17 crores, said the Malankara Association Secretary Dr. George Joseph, while presenting the budget for the year 2011-2012 the Church.

St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, Dubai came first from the Outside India Region and St. Peters and St. Pauls Orthodox Church, Kolenchery came first within India.

M.G. George Muthoott, the Lay Trustee of the Malankara Church, was the individual, who contributed maximum with Rs. 22 lakhs to the Catholicate Day Collections.

Aid to farmers suffering through natural disasters and health insurance for those, who are below poverty line were the two important projects from the new budget.

Funds have been allocated for 1960th anniversary celebration of the establishment of Church in India and centenary of the establishment of Catholicate in India in the budget for the year 2012.

A family is expected to donate ‘one day’s income’ to the Catholicate day collection.

    God commands everyone to give a ‘TITHE” Bring ye all the tithe into the treasure-house, that there may be consumption in my house. That means we have bring 36.4 days of earning to Church. But our Bava Thirueni asks only 1 days pay as offering. I wonder why many of of our members do not sit and count the actual day’s pay and put in the Catholicate Donaton envolope.

    Are we not misusing St Paul’s instruction that ‘Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Cor 9:7
    I think we should obey both verses.
