KOTTAYAM: “If greed driven continual exploitation of nature takes place, human extinction will result”, stated the Catholicos of the East Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II. The Pontiff was inaugurating the ‘Earth Day Celebrations’ at the Catholicate Palace compound on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
It was good to understand the depth of the words of Gandhiji, namely, ‘whatever one needs is available in the world, but not for one’s greed’, carried on the Pontiff.
A tree was planted at the Catholicate Palace compound in the presence of Catholicos Emeritus Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Didymus I. Fr. M.K. Kurien, Manager, Catholicate Palace, spoke on the occasion.
Metropolitan Kuriakose Mar Clemis, President of the Ecological Commission of the Church presided over the meeting at St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Nannuvakkadu, Pathanamthitta. Adv. K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA, inaugurated the meeting.
Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Adv. K. Suresh Kumar, Dr. George Varghese, Robin Peter, and Fr. Biju Mathews spoke on the occasion. Distribution of treelings also took place.
