KINGSTON, Jamaica: Fr Dr K M George, Principal of the Orthodox Theological Faculty, Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam and Fr Dr Bijesh Philip, Principal, St Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary (STOTS), Nagpur, will represent the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church community at the International Ecumenical Peace Conference (IEPC).
The Conference is being organised by World Council of Churches (WCC) at Kingston, Jamaica from May 17-24.
Hosted by the Jamaican Council of Churches and the Caribbean Council of Churches, the IEPC will be the major ecumenical event prior to the 10th Assembly of the WCC in 2013 in Busan, Korea.
Fr Dr Bijesh Philip reached Jamaica from Tampa in the west coast of Florida yesterday.
On Wednesday, May 18, the plenary will witness opening, DOV celebration, keynote address, and greetings.
The scheduled speakers are Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit (WCC General Secretary), Rev Dr Paul Gardner, Rev Dr Margot Kässmann, Metropolitan Dr Hilarion of Volokolamsk and Canon Dr Paul Oestreicher.
On Friday May 20, Fr.Dr K M George is a scheduled speaker on the plenary ‘Peace with the Earth’.
Other impressive speakers include Rev Tafue M Lusama, Sr Ernestina López Bac, Adrian Shaw and Lic Elias Crisostomo Abramides and others.

An ecumenical fellowship of churches founded in 1948, today the WCC brings together 349 Protestant, Orthodox, Anglican and other churches representing more than 560 million Christians in over 110 countries, and works cooperatively with the Roman Catholic Church.
The present WCC general secretary is Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, from the (Lutheran) Church of Norway. Their headquarters is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
