KALMESHWAR, Nagpur: ‘Upasana’ in Sanskrit means ‘sitting near’. The term is used in Hinduism to denote a prescribed method for approaching a deity (God) or getting close to deity. That’s what Upasana, the proposed centre of the Nagpur-based St Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary (STOTS) is all about.
As STOTS enters a new phase, it is planning to construct a new facility called ‘Upasana’ at its premises in Kalmeshwar, Nagpur.
The present infrastruture is inadequate to meet its future demands. The proposed centre will serve as a focal point for hosting various regional events of the youth movement, MGOCSM, Sunday School and other spiritual activities. Also planned are the yearly retreat programes for families and for those seeking spiritual solace and comfort.
Estimated to cost around Rs 1.4 crore, it will have a conference hall named in the memory of HG Stephanos Mar Theodosius. Other facilities include dining hall, a kitchen, two dormitories, 14 double rooms, accommodation and dining for staff, visitors and guests.
Rev Fr P C Thomas, Chief Finance Promoter of Upasana, now in the USA as part of a fund raising campaign, says the Upasana project will be a blessing to the seminary for its spiritual activities outside the Kerala region and hence is seeking all your esteemed prayers and financial support towards the project.
Fr Dr Bijesh Philip, Principal, STOTS, says the need for the centre was decided with the blessing of the Holy Episcopal Synod. “It is our hope that Upasana will be materialised soon by His Grace and the generous support of the well wishers and appreciate the support of the Sunday School students and staff towards this endeavour.”
The financial campaign leadership is under the presidentship of HG Geevarghese Mar Coorilos and under the directors of HG Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius, HG Alexios Mar Eusebius and HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios.
Other development projects of STOTS include building class rooms, fencing and tarring the roads in the campus, water treatment plant, non-teaching staff quarters and a farm house.
