Catholicate Day Celebrations at Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka, Muscat
MUSCAT: Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka, Muscat was blessed with the presence of His Grace Dr Abraham Mar Seraphim, Metropolitan head of Bangalore Diocese, on April 15, 2011, the 40th Friday of the Great Lent.
The Metropolitan who was the chief celebrant of the Holy Eucharist delivered an eloquent and meaningful sermon from Matthew 4:1-11 on the temptations of Jesus by the Devil.
Later at the Catholicate Day celebrations, Dr Mar Seraphim in his inspiring address called upon the laity to focus on missionary work which will serve as a backbone for the Malankara Orthodox community. His Grace voiced his deep concern in this aspect and made a call for missionary work to be taken up seriously.
On this occasion, Dr Mar Seraphim urged the Orthodox community to extend their whole-hearted support and committment to its supreme head, the Catholicos and the causes it stood for. The young Metropolitan also stressed on upholding the holy sacraments of the church and suggested considering seperate ‘budgeting’ of funds towards the Catholicate Day collections.
The Metropolitan recalled how during his young days at Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Catholicate Day celebrations were celebrated with pomp and glory and wanted the same ‘energetic’ spirit’ among the younger generation.
Felicitating the Metropolitan, Abraham Mathew (Trustee), said the Muscat Maha Edavaka was honoured to host Dr Mar Seraphim who was also known as a fierce orator.
Also present include Fr Varghese George, Cherian P Thomas (Co-Trustee), Biju Parumala (Secretary) and Jacobs Kuriakose (Sabha Managing Committee Member).
The Catholicate pledge was read out by Fr P K Thomas and repeated by the parishioners.
Sunday School choir melodiously rendered the Catholicate Managala Ganam. The short function concluded with a vote of thanks from the parish trustee.
