Faithful must strive for ‘straight’ faith and not ‘crippled’ one: Dr Mar Yulios
Completes 3-week hectic visit to the Sultanate of Oman
MUSCAT: As the Great Lent crosses the mid-Lenten season and enters the fifth week, Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan, Ahmedabad Diocese, gave a succinct message to the congregation during the Holy Eucharist at the Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka on Friday.
On the concluding day of his visit to the Sulanate, the Metropolitan took up the story of Jesus healing a crippled woman on the Sabbath (Kipiphtho) for delivering a message through his sermon reading from St Luke 13:10-17.
In the verse, the evil spirit had made her (the woman) ill for 18 years, she was bent over and couldn’t straighten up at all.
Comparing this, the Metropolitan said “if you are burdened with sins you can never raise yourselves and be crippled like the woman.” Absolute power of anything in excess cripples the system be it in diet, defence or administration, he cautioned.
Metropolitan called upon the congregation to inculcate a faith that is ‘straight’ and not one of crooked or ‘crippled’ one.
Dr Mar Yulios completed a 3-week hectic visit to the Sultanate of Oman during which he prepared the ground for the maiden visit of the Catholicos Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II to Muscat and Salalah as per protocol.
Later, in the afternoon he also addressed the Sunday School students and MGOC youth movement members.
Later in the night, the Metropolitan left for Mumbai. On April 3, Dr Mar Yulios will be the chief celebrant at the Holy Qurbana at Devayani, Nasik district.
