Catholicose presents a picture of humbleness; lauds missionary work of MGOC Muscat
Dr Mar Yulios: Presence of His Holiness means presence of Jesus Christ

MUSCAT: Moran Mar Baselious Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicose and Malankara Metropolitan has praised the missionary zeal of the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church (MGOC) Muscat which formerly under the Calcutta Diocese had done yeoman service for the upliftment of the downtrodden.

The Catholicose was replying to felicitations (Anugraha Prabhashnam) at his reception held at Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church Muscat on March 19.

The Supreme Head was humble personified in his speech saying that he was wary of too many praises going over his head since he was attending a number of episcopal visits and receptions after his enthronement. His Holiness was nostalgic about the words of wisdom from his late guru and visionary Dr Paulos Mar Gregorios.
The Catholicos also praised the hard working expats in the Arabian Gulf who toil hard and to pray that better times were ahead of them. “The large crowd who gathered to listen to me shows your love for Malankara Orthodox and not for me,” he said.

Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan of Ahmedabad Diocese, in his presidential address, said the presence of His Holiness means the presence of Jesus Christ which also symbolises the love and sanctity of the church.

The Metropolitan reiterated that His Holiness for him is not just a supreme head but also a spiritual father and leader and urged all to extend all support on behalf of Ahmedabad Diocese.

Fr C S Mathew, Vicar, Sohar Church, began the reception with a prayer.

Fr James Geevarghese, Vicar, MGOC, delivered the welcome speech profiling the life history of the Catholicose.

P C Cherian, Trustee, MGOC, gave a briefing of Malankara Orthodox Church.

HE Anil Wadhwa, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate, Fr Dr Johns Abraham Konattu (Priest-Trustee, MOSC), Shri M G George Muthoot (Lay Trustee, MOSC), also spoke.

Also present include Shaikh Ahmed al Bari, Director, Ministry of Awqaf & Religious Affairs, Pastor Jack Buteyn, Protestant Churches in Oman, Fr Mathew Erathel, Catholic Church,Rev. Mathew P Thomas, Marthoma Church in Oman, Rev Mathew P Oommen, CSI Church, Fr Baroosme, Coptic Church, Jacobs Kuriakose, Sabha Managing Committee Member, Cherian P Thomas, Diocesan Council Member, Dr C Thomas, Senior Member, MGOC, Geevarghese Yohannan, Senior Member, MGOC and Abraham Mathew, Forthcoming Trustee.

John Thomas, Secretary MGOC delivered the vote of thanks.

Earlier, the Catholicose and dignitaries were led to the Church from the parsonage by candle-lit members of the MGOC to the accompaniment of chenda melam. Cries of Jai, Jai Catholicose reached its crescendo when the Holy Shepherd entered the church.

A group song in English and Malayalam was sung by Sunday School students.

Earlier, MGOC Choir sang the Catholicate Anthem and the programme ended with a benediction by Moran Mar Baselius Marthoma Paulose II.
