Indian Orthodox Radio Begins Operations in May 2011

PHILADELPHIA: Indian Orthodox Radio, a twenty four hour Internet Streaming Radio service, will begin its operations in May 2011, informed Fr. George Daniel, Public Relations Director of Indian Orthodox Radio.

First meeting of the Director Board of Indian Orthodox Radio was convened under the chair of Metropolitan Pulikkottil Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios on Sunday, February 6, 2011.

“The Church needs to exploit modern technological advancements to the maximum to propagate her faith and liturgy. This kind of a radio streaming over internet that is also available on smart phones will surely become a great blessing to the Malankara Orthodox faithful all over the world and Christianity at large. Moreover, this endeavor gains weight when we consider the future generations of Malankara Church that enters into the centenary year of the establishment of the Catholicate”, said Metropolitan Mar Yulios.

Programs will include liturgy of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, intercessory prayers, Bible readings, Sunday sermons, preachings, devotions, Orthodox catechism, discussions, liturgical songs and training, book reviews, hourly Church News bulletins in English and Malayalam, and Biblical skits etc. Radio will be available through and . This Radio will also be audible on smart phones through mobile apps.

“Programs will be for six hours daily and will repeat in four quarters to begin with. After six months program duration will be for twelve hours”, said Fr. George Daniel.

Sam Thomas, Dubai will serve as the producer. Bonnie Mathew, Pittsburg, will be the Web-editor. Liju Cherian, Muscut and George Thazhakkara will contribute as news editors for English and Malayalam. Fr. M.P. George, Director, Sruthi School of Liturgical Music will be the producer for all liturgical programs. Fr. John Thomas Karingattil is to produce interviews. Tenny Thomas will produce youth programs.

Dr. Joy Pyngolil, Florida (Director Finance), Charley Padanilam, Texas (Director Marketing), Mathew George, Philadelphia (Director Accounts), Fr. George Daniel, Florida (Director Public Relations), Fr. T.U. Jacob, Washington (Secretary to the Director Board), Fr. Johnson Punchakonam, Georgia (Director Operations), Fr. Dr. Jacob Mathew, Florida (Director Theological Programs), Fr. John Thomas, New York (Director Youth Programs), Fr. Shebaly, Philadelphia (Director Non-Theological Programs), and Sam Thomas Dubai (Director Production).

Correspondences on parish and diocesan levels are invited from those, who are interested in journalism and are equipped with technical know-how in modern media operations to cooperate with the Indian Orthodox Radio.

Skits, programs from parish quires and the likes (recorded files to the extent of maximum thirty minutes) are invited to be included in programs. Selected ones will be aired.

Initial monthly expenses to run the Radio are thought to be more than $1000.00. Those, who wish to lend a helping hand, are invited as program sponsors. Advertisements are also welcome.
