DEWAS, Madhya Pradesh — The first annual zonal conference of the Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam under the Diocese of Ahmedabad was held on Republic Day, January 26 under the Madhya Pradesh Zone.
Metopolitan Dr Pulikkottil Geevarghese Mar Yulios of Ahmedabad Diocese, inaugurated and moderated the day-long session of the meet held at the St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh.
The Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam conference members proposed and passed a resolution to the Holy Episcopal Synod for voting rights and administrative participation for Malankara Orthodox women in the Holy Church.
The Holy Synod is meeting in Kottayam towards the end of February.
Fr Reji Alexander, Vicar of Kota Parish delivered the key note address. Fr Sijin Mathew, Vicar of Dewas Parish and Fr Binu John Thomas, Vicar of Indore Parish and other members from the Madhya Pradesh zone toiled hard to make the conference a resounding success.

I don’t know how far the request of Martha Mariam Samajam for Voting rights and administrative participation of women will be pondered by the higher authorities of the Church.
I commend HG for accepting this great step forward for our church. Voting rights for women and full participation without question is long overdue!
