TERRORIST CAR BOMBING AT A COPTIC ORTHODOX CHURCH IN EGYPT KILLS AT LEAST TWENTY ONE CHRISTIANS AND INJURES 97 OTHERS. HUNDREDS OF FLORIDA COPTIC CHURCH MEMBERS AND MANY OTHERS WILL GATHER IN ORLANDO TO HOLD A PRAYER VIGIL FOR THE VICTIMS AND THE CONTINUED PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS IN EGYPT.
A devastating New Year’s Day terrorist bombing at a Coptic church in Egypt that killed 21 people and injured 97 others was the latest violent assault against the vulnerable Christian communities in Egypt.
The car bomb explosion targeted defenseless Christian worshipers who were exiting a church just after midnight following a New Year’s Mass service in east Alexandria, Egyptian. History shows this latest act of terrorism is just one of many barbaric attacks on the Coptic Orthodox Christian Community in Egypt and that lately there have been several terrorist threats against Coptic communities in Europe and the US.
Locally, Coptic Orthodox Christians are strong in numbers. Approximately 2,800 Copts reside in Orlando; 16,000 in Florida and 200,000 in the southern eastern part of the United States.
On Saturday January 22nd the Coptic Orthodox community from all over Florida will gather for a prayer vigil. Hundreds of people will gather in memory of the helpless victims to this terrorist attack on Christians. The Coptic Orthodox community around the world has rallied in protest to the lack of involvement by governments to intervene and stop the Christian persecution.
This prayer vigil is to not only remember and honor those who have died, but to raise awareness as to what is happening and how we can stop it. Several religious leaders across the state and elected political representatives are expected to join the Coptic Orthodox community in this prayer vigil.
