Consecration of St Stephens Parish, Thane

THANE, MUMBAI: Consecration of reconstructed St Stephens Orthodox Parish, Thane, of Bombay Diocese will be held on 7th and 8th January 2011.

Catholicos of the East Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II will be the chief celebrant. Metropolitan Thomas Mar Athanasios of Chengannur Diocese and Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Coorilos of Bombay Diocese will assist the Pontiff at the consecration.

It was on January 13th 2008 the then Catholicos elect Metropolitan Paulose Mar Milithios laid the foundation stone for the newly re-constructed Church.

Prior to the consecration Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Coorilos celebrated Holy Qurbana on 2nd January at the new Church. The Metropolitan had also consecrated the cross towers, flag post and hoisted the perunal flag.

At present Fr. Koshy Alex Thumpumkal serves as Vicar of St. Stephens Orthodox Church, Thane.

Metropolitan of UK, Europe and Africa Diocese Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios blessed and lit the Torch Light (Deepashikha) on 29th December 2010 after Holy Qurbana at St Stephens Orthodox Church, Kattanam, Mavelikara Diocese.

Metropolitan Thomas Mar Athanasios will be the chief celebrant for the feast of St. Thomas Parish to be held on 9th January 2011.
