Pampakuda Prayerbook is an Invaluable Treasure of Malankara: Catholicos of the East

KOTTAYAM: Pampakuda Prayerbook, a vast collection of prayers that Malankara Malpan Konattu Mathan Chor-Episcopos translated from Syriac to Malayalm, is an invaluable treasure of Malankara, said the Catholicos of the East Baselius Marthoma Paulose II. The Pontiff was inaugurating the Centenary of publication of the Pampakuda Prayerbook at the Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam, Kerala.

Metropolitan Dr. Mathews Mar Severios of the Kandanadu West Diocese and Secretary of the Holy Episcopal Synod presided over the meeting.

Grand son of Malankara Malpan Mathen Chor-Episcopos and Professor for Syriac and Patristics at the Orthodox Theological Seminary Fr. Dr. Johns Abraham Konattu was the main speaker on the occasion. Fr. Konattu elaborated upon the legacy of his grand father in the context of the Pampakuda Prayerbook as well as on the fidelity of the translated text to its original. Fr. Dr. Johns Abraham Konattu is serving at present as the Priest Trustee of Malankara Church as well.

Principal of the Orthodox Theological Seminary Fr. Dr. K.M. George, Fr. Dr. T.J. Joshua, and Manager of Old Seminary Fr. M.C. Kuriakose spoke on the occasion.

A seminar on the Pampakuda Prayerbook will be conducted at the Ecumenical Hall of Orthodox Theological Seminary at 2.00 pm on Tuesday, November 30.

Pampakuda Prayerbook is a huge compilation of prayers written by various Fathers in Syriac. It includes daily prayers for monks, priests and laity, special prayers during the whole year on Sundays, prayers to be said in silence and on special occasions, procedure at death bed along with prayers on those occasions, and quartets of St. Ephrem and other Fathers etc.
