MUSCAT: Dr Pulikkottil Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan of Ahmedabad Diocese, begins the second part of his visit to the Sultanate of Oman from November 12, Friday, when he undertakes a four-day visit to Sohar.
Metropolitan Mar Yulios is presently in Muscat on his first-ever visit since churches in the Sultanate come under the newly formed Ahmedabad Diocese.
Dr Mar Yulios travels to Sohar in the Al Batinah Region, placed about 200 kilometres north of Muscat. Sohar is also the most developed city in the Sultanate outside the capital Muscat.
Metropolitan will lead the Holy Eucharist trimass (Munninmel Qurbana) at the St George Orthodox Church, Sohar and also take part in the St Parumala Thirumen’s Dukhrono Perunal and procession from 8.30 pm on November 12.
Dr Mar Yulios will also take time to visit nearby areas of Buraimi, Rustaq and Ibri to meet the Orthodox congregation. Metropolitan will also interact with the Sunday School students, Martha Mariam Samajam members and also with various prayer groups in the evening.
Over the next three days from November 13 to 15, Dr Mar Yulios will meet with the Sunday School students, Martha Mariam Samajam members, youth and prayer meeting at 4 pm. Also visits to Buraimi, Rustaq and Ibri have been scheduled after 6 pm to meet the Orthodox congregation.
The Sohar congregation was earlier under the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church (MGOC) Muscat. It was declared as an independent church as St George Orthodox Church by the former incharge metropolitan of Ahmedabad Diocese, His Grace Geevarghese Mar Coorilos on March 19, 2009.
The Metropolitan returns to Muscat on November 15 night and will leave for Salalah on November 17 for a three-day visit.
