MUSCAT: Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan, Ahmedabad Diocese, was accorded a grand welcome upon arrival at the Muscat International Airport on November 5 evening.
Later on arrival at the Ruwi Church compound, the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church (MGOC) members and choir gave him a rousing welcome. Sunday School children and Martha Mariam Samajam ladies attired in white lined the route with lighted candles while the choir sang hymns in praise of the new Metropolitan.
Metropolitan later entered the chapel and led a short prayer paying his obeisance at the relics of St Gregorios of Parumala and of late His Grace Stephanos Mar Theodosius.
Later, the Metropolitan took part in the evening prayers, felicitation function and the rasa that followed. Vicars of CSI and Mar Thoma Church in Oman along with Fr James Geevarghese, Vicar, MGOC, Fr Jiju John and Fr Varghese George also attended in the presence of MGOC managing committee members.
On Friday, despite ill-health due on long travel, Dr Mar Yulios was the chief celebrant at the trimass for MGOC’s harvest and parish day celebrations. Malankara Orthodox theologian and octagenarian Dr T J Joshua was honoured on the occasion.
There were also fete and sale and auction of first fruit offerings. Variety entertainment programmes by Sunday School students and food stalls by Martha Mariam Samajam members were the other highlights.
