Grand reception awaits Dr Mar Yulios on maiden Muscat visit

MUSCAT — Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, the new Metropolitan of the Ahmedabad Diocese, is heading to Muscat, on his maiden Episcopal visit to the Sultanate.

The Metropolitan arrives at the Muscat International Airport on November 4 evening after a brief stop over at Bangalore. He will be received by Rev Fr James Geevarghese, Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church Vicar and members of the managing committee.

Upon arrival at the Ruwi Church compound, His Grace will be accorded a traditional welcome by MGOC members.

Mar Yulios will be the chief celebrant at the holy Trimass on November 5 for the MGOC Parish Perunal and chief guest for the Parish Day celebrations.

The day also coincides with the 3rd remembrance of late His Grace Dr Stephanos Mar Theodosius who passed away in Muscat in 2007.

Dr Yulios says: “The basic aim of my visit is to meet our people: hear them and pray for them.” His Grace will hold meeting with various spiritual organisations like Sunday School, Martha Mariam Samajam and MGOCYM members during his stay. There will also be a separate meeting with all the Muscat area prayer groups.

Metropolitan will also honour meritorious students who scored top marks in the CBSE, KSB, 10th and 12th standard examinations. Winners of the Stephanos Mar Theodosius Memorial Bible Quiz Competition will also be felicitated.

6.30 pm: Arrives at Ruwi Church Compound
7 pm: Participate in evening prayers
7.30 pm: Vajana Shishrusha and church convention
8.30 pm: Felicitation for His Grace followed by rasa
Nov 5: Chief celebrant at Holy Trimass
11 am: Chief guest for Parish Day celebrations
Nov 6-11: Meets with church members at church parsonage
Nov 12, 13, 14: Visits St George Orthodox Church in Sohar
Nov 17, 18, 19: Visits St Stephens Orthodox Church, Salalah
Nov 20: Departure for Kerala.

Oct 22-24: Visits Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church, Vadodara, Gujarat.
Oct 26-28: In Bangkok attends a bilateral inter-faith consultation representing Interfaith Coalition for Peace (ICP) in India towards better Indo-Pak relations
Oct 29: Attends 90th birthday celebrations of HH Baselios Marthoma Didymus I at Parumala.
Nov 1: Attends consecration of Catholicos Elect Metropolitan Paulose Mar Milithios in Parumala
Nov 4-20: Sultanate of Oman visit
