PEC, KOSOVO: Enthronement of the new Serbian Patriarch Irinej took place at the Patriarchate of Pec in Kosovo, Serbia. The enthronement ceremony took place on October 3rd, 2010 at historic Patriarchate of Pec of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Metropolitan Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios of Trivandrum Diocese represented the Indian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Gregorios is the President of Ecumenical Relations Department of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
Metropolitan Dr. Gregorios conveyed the wishes and goodwill on behalf of the Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan Baselius Marthoma Didymos I and the Holy Episcopal Synod of the Malankara Church to the newly enthroned Patriarch.
“It was indeed a blessed and well arranged ceremony and it was my pleasure to attend the holy function” said Metropolitan Mar Gregorios.
Representatives from all sister Orthodox churches attended the enthronement ceremony. Armenian and the Indian Orthodox Church represented the Oriental Orthodox family.
As a token of love an icon of St Thomas was presented to the new Patriarch. A special gift, namely, a picture depicting the visit of Late Lamented Catholicos Baselios Geevergahse II paid to the Serbian Patriarch in 1937 was also presented to the Patriarch reminding the fraternal ties between the two Churches. Patriarch Irinej was in great joy to receive the gift and personally appreciated Metropolitan Gregorios. The Serbian Pontiff extended brotherly greetings and wishes to Catholicos Baselius Dydymus and to the entire Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
