  1. Your Holiness,

Why do pontiffs have to sit on thrones? I love and admire Jesus because he came to earth as a common man, a carpenter by trade. Throughout his life the only throne he saw was someone else’s. I don’t think of any of the disciples ruled from thrones. they went around preaching from place to place without any air conditioning in very hot and dusty conditions.
That is what He promised isn’t it? Live by my principles in faith and I will ensure that you get a place at my father’s side in heaven. I don’t think that suffering is theonly way to god but I don’t think that sitting on a throne elevates you in His sight.
Why do you have to sit on a throne at any time? Why don’t you just use a chair? Why do we spend millions on ornamenting our churches? Is it to glorify god or to glorify the Malankara Orthodox sect? Could you think about the poor for a change; the hungry, the homeless, the sick and dying? Can you make sure that any new churches being built are simple structures where people can worship their living god?
If any private individual or business house wants to ornament a church and put up a sign with their name on it, would you ask them to give the same amount to a church to be used in doing good works? There is so much you can do with the vast wealth that the church has but all I hear about is the necessity for more garish churches for the upliftment of the ego.
Your Holiness is only a man at the end of the day and you face pressure from church and laiety especially in Kottayam. It must be years since you experienced poerty if you ever did. Go out and meet the people who really worship and need Christ. Visit the houses of your poorest parishioners, not the richest. I don’t know you personally but I would like you to think about the number of ‘ordinary’ people’s houses you have been to after becoming a bishop.
All the best for your ‘reign’ on the throne of a man who had none.

  2. We thank God for giving us your Holiness. With your service from Tabor to Malabar to Devalokam spread the light if Christian living all across the Malankara Church. You are an ascetic par excellence.

On October 29th your Holiness celebrates 2 birth days-real birthday and birthday as the Malankara Metropolitan. Your holiness has reached 90 and your holiness is the 90th successor to St. Thomas throne. It is a good omen.
I wish, hope and pray for your health and happiness. We need your continued prayers and blessing.
    .
From a physiological and administrative perspective, I would request your Holiness, at this age, to assign partial power (Malankara Metropolitan) to the Catholicate designate because of the weight of the responsibilities. Your Holiness showed us many examples by your life, I hope your holiness will initiate a shift in power when these two nineties and two birthdays meet together.

Wish you health and Happiness our Bava Thirumeni.

  3. Oh holy father!

As a humble son and servant of Malankara Orthodox Church, I wish and pray God Almighty to provide your holiness utmost happiness and good health , so as to lead church like Elijah, particularly during the present day turmoils in the church, before you handover the charges to your deputy, the present Catholicose-elect.

  4. May it please Your Holiness,
“We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father.” (1Thess.1:2-3)
Your Holiness, in your long life, you have experienced the most difficult upheavals in both society and science. You have dedicated your life to searching for responses that are grounded in our common faith in the Risen Lord. We pray to the God Almighty that by His Grace you are blessed to continue leading the faithful of the Malankara Orthodox Church. We thank God for your life and work.
    Yours in Christ’s Service,
    Fr.Johnson Punchakonam
