KOTTAYAM: “Now days families are paying higher attention on secular success. In anticipation of secular achievements parents are paying more attention to secular education and thus the spiritual nurture is being sidelined. This tendency will create long lasting consequences”, said the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan Baselios Marthoma Didymus I.
The Catholicos was inaugurating the 45th annual meeting of the ‘Orthodox Sunday School Association of the East’.
Metropolitan Dr. Yacob Mar Ireneaus, president of the Sunday School Association, presided over the meeting.
“Kerala, the state that stands ahead of all Indian states in literacy and living standards, is also ahead of other states in crime, suicide and alcohol abuse. This contradiction shall remind us that something important has gone wrong. In order to address this issue, parents have to pay more attention to rear their children through spiritual nourishments”, opined the Catholicos Elect Metropolitan Paulose Mar Milithios in his speech.
Metropolitan Mathews Mar Theodosios, Fr. Dr. T.J. Joshua, Fr. Dr. O. Thomas, Praveen Mathew Kurian, and Merin Mariam Roy spoke on the occasion.
The Catholicose presented awards to Praveen Mathew Kurian, Merin George, Vinu Vilson, Merin Mariam Roy, who were the laureates of Sunday School Prathibha, Gana Sugandhi, and Vigyani honors.
Fr. C. J. Joshua received the two hundred and fifty thousand Rupees that the Sunday School has gathered for the Karappuzha Balabhavan.
