PHILADELPHIA: ‘Human becomes spiritual only when the human relationship with God reaches to the level of experience’, acclaimed Metropolitan Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius of the Calcutta Diocese. The Metropolitan was addressing the faithful gathered at the St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Philadelphia at the eve of the feast of St. Thomas, the Patron Saint of India as well as that of the Parish.
“Human is seeking God today either in a ‘spirituality for tummy’ or at a ‘sole intellectual plane’. Here the human reasoning takes control over things and people conceive this wrong notion as true spirituality. This is but a mistake. Where Selfish motives stay alive, God can not be actively present. However, when spirituality reaches to a true experiential level, human would find it difficult to part from God. Only then human becomes a spiritual being”, carried on the Metropolitan.
Earlier, Vicar Fr. M.K. Kuriakose received the Metropolitan Mar Dionysius by handing over a lighted candle. Vicars from neighboring parishes, Chor-Episcopos K. Mathai, Fr. Shebaly, Fr. Dr. K.M. Samuel, and Dn. Daniel Yohannan attended the reception in the evening.
Boys and girls from the parish presented a percussional accompaniment, which marked a pure novelty. Eye catching fireworks have also attracted the attention of all.
On July 4 Sunday, the Metropolitan celebrated the Holy Qurbana as part of the feast celebrations. The procession thereafter was a touching experience for it kindled the true devotion and confidence for many in the unfailing intercession of St. Thomas.
The parish library was rededicated in the afternoon.
