BANGALORE : “Millions of poor do not celebrate their birthdays and do not even know when they are born. They also know not the very purpose of their existence in this world and let us spare a thought for such less privileged,” said Bishop Yuhanon Mar Meletius, Metropolitan, Diocese of Thrissur.
The bishop was speaking to the congregation of the St Gregorios Orthodox Church, Mathikere, Bangalore, after cutting a ceremonial cake on his 55th birthday on July 4. He also conducted the Holy Qurbana at the church.
Metropolitan thanked the church vicar Fr K M Jacob and the church committee officials for the kind gesture. The Bishop proceeded to jointly cut the cake with another Sunday School girl who also celebrated her birthday on the same day.
Turing slightly emotional, the metropolitan said he is never used to celebrate birthdays even during his childhood days and such special occasions are marked for the layman and not particularly for the clergy.
Metropolitan hoped the Almighty grant him many more years of good health and the direction and wisdom to move forward in life.
Dr Yuhanon Mar Meletius was in Bangalore on a short visit to participate in the centenary celebrations of his alumnus, the United Theological College, Bangalore. He has since returned to Thrissur.
