Stage is Set for the Consecration of St. Basil Orthodox Church, Franklyn Square

NEW YORK: Consecration of the newly renovated St. Basil Orthodox Church, Franklyn Square will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 11 and 12, 2010.

Metropolitan of the Diocese of North East America Mathews Mar Barnabas will be the chief celebrant. Auxiliary Metropolitan Zachariah Mar Nicholavos will assist the Metropolitan during the services.

St. Basil Orthodox Church was founded in 1990. On November 2nd, 2008, at the feast of St. Gregorios of Parumala, Metropolitan Mar Barnabas laid the foundation stone for the new Church. It took almost two years to complete the renovations.

Renovation works were done under the leadership of the Building Committee spearheaded by Fr. Thomas Paul, the vicar of St. Basil Orthodox Church, Franklyn Square. Wilson P. Daniel, Korason Varghese and John Aleas were members of the Building Committee. K.P. Geevarghese serves as the Treasurer and Babu Varghese is the Secretary.
