In 2007 the Malankara Managing Committee appointed one of its members, Philipose Philip, New York, and asked him to submit a report on the feasibility to form a new diocese from within the American diocese. Managing committee after detailed discussions in three of its consecutive assemblies declared its decision to form the new South West American diocese and passed it on to the Holy Episcopal Synod for final approval. Final approval to form the Diocese of South West America came in the year 2009.
