KOTTAYAM: A special meeting of the Holy Episcopal Synod met at the Catholicate Palace, Devalokam concluded at 9.00 pm on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Catholicos of Malankara Baselios Marthoma Didymus I presided over the meeting.

IOH has learned that this special meeting has confirmed the names for the new Metropolitans, who will be consecrated on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Mar Elia Cathedral, Kottayam.

Baselios Marthoma Didymus I herewith takes the fame of consecrating the highest number of Metropolitans in the history of Malankara. In less than three years the Pontiff would consecrate fourteen Metropolitans. Need for bishops in Malankara due to division of dioceses and vacancies created by ill health or death of Metropolitans have contributed to the need of bishops.

  1. I agree. The proper prefix and full title should be used every time . Doing otherwise is a sign of disrespect to the throne of St.Thomas.

  2. Dear Sir,
There is no Catholicose of Malankara or Catholicose of India. There is only Catholicose of the East, who is also the Malankara Metropolitan.
2.Why reluctant in adding the prefix His Holiness before the Catholicose when the largest circulated news paper Malayala Manorama is always particular in not omitting this prefix.
