KOTTAYAM: Preparations for the consecration of Metropolitans on Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 are over.
Fr. Dr. Youhanon Ramban, Fr. Dr. Nathaniel Ramban, Fr. Yaquob Ramban, Fr. Youhanon Ramban, Fr. Dr. Zachariah Ramban, Fr. Dr. Geevarghese Ramban, and Fr. Dr. Abraham Ramban are the candidates to be consecrated as Metropolitans.
These seven priests were elected to the bishopricate at the Malankara Association met at Sasthamkotta on February 17th, this year.
Consecration ceremony will take place at Mar Elia Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of Malankara Metropolitan and the Catholicos of the East.
An air conditioned special holy altar room has been prepared for the services. Seventy persons including 27 Metropolitans and their secretaries, many chor-episcopoi and priests have space at this specially built holy altar room to give leadership to consecration services.
Morning prayers will begin at 6.00 am to mark the consecration services. A special choir consisting more than 200 singers under the Shruti School of Liturgical Music will lead the chanting.
Around 25,000 people can attend the ceremony. Seats are prepared on both sides of the Cathedral as well as at the Baselius College ground. Consecration ceremony will take place after the Kukilion for the saints during the Holy Qurbana. Senior most amongst the newly consecrated Metropolitans will be the one to complete the Holy Qurbana. After this historic consecration the number of Metropolitans for the Malankara Church will become 33, the highest in the history of Malankara.
The Catholicos will release a souvenir that includes all details of the Malankara Church. Leader of opposition, Kerala Legislative Assembly, Oommen Chandy, a member of St. George Orthodox Church, Puthuppalli will receive the souvenir from the Pontiff. Member of Indian Parliament Jose K. Mani, and Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly V.N. Vasavan will attend the meeting.
Metropolitans from sister churches and dignitaries from political, social, and cultural walks of life will attend the function. Special seatings are arranged for Managing Committee members, Working Committee members, Association Members, Diocesan Council Members and other important personalities.
Parking of Vehicles will strictly be controlled. No vehicles will be allowed at the consecration site. Vehicles shall park at the Collectorate ground, Lourde Forona church ground, M.T. Seminary ground, Catholicate Palace ground, Devalokam, Jerusalem Marthoma Church ground, B.C.M. College ground, Erayilkadavu, and Kodimatha Market ground.
Kottayam District administration convened a special meeting to monitor preparations for the consecration. Kottayam District Collector Mini Anthony and MLA V.N. Vasavan attended the meeting along with dignitaries from Malankara Church and police officials.
A medical team will also be at hand for emergency help at the consecration site.
