Southeast Regional OVBS Teachers’ Conference

OLANDO: The Southeast Regional Sunday School and OVBS Teachers’ Conference of the South-West American Diocese was held at St. Paul’s Orthodox Church of Greater Orlando, Florida on Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Dn. Joshua George, Diocesan Director of Orthodox Vacation Bible School, led the sessions. Dn. Joshua made a presentation on the OVBS theme. Suja John, St Thomas Malankara Orthodox Church, Oakland Park displayed arts and crafts. Sheba George and teachers of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church Sunday School, Tampa introduced OVBS songs for the year 2010. Model classes were led by Leena Davis, St. Paul’s Orthodox Church, Orlando and Ajumon Zachariah, St Gregorios Orthodox Church, Jacksonville. Dr. K. C. Ninan, St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Atlanta emphasized on the Sunday School Teacher’s training in his talk.

Fr. Dr. Jacob Mathew, vicar of the host parish, welcomed the participants. Fr. George John, vicar, St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Fort Lauderdale and Fr. George Daniel, vicar, St. Thomas Malankara Orthodox Church, Oakland Park, have also attended the conference.

The business meeting decided to conduct Regional Sunday School Students’ Talent Competitions on Saturday, October 9 2010 at St. Paul’s Orthodox Church, Orlando. The business meeting also stressed on the importance of Sunday School Teacher Certification Program, Sunday School Parent-Teacher Association (SS-PTA), centralized examinations and various future activities on both the Regional and Diocesan levels. Sunday School talent competitions will be held separately for the Florida Sunday Schools. A separate talent competition will be organized for the Sunday School students from Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Around 50 Sunday School teachers from parishes in Florida and Georgia attended the conference.

Mr. Abraham Kappil, Regional Coordinator, expressed the vote of thanks.
