NAGPUR: Dr.Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos, Metropolitan of Niranam, laid the foundation stone for the Boy’s hostel at Prerana Special School, Nagpur, Madhya Pradesh. Prerana Special School is a mission project of St. Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary (STOTS), Nagpur for the differently-abled children. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan of Bombay and Chairman of Governing Board, STOTS Nagpur, also graced the occasion. The proposed hostel building includes dormitory, kitchen, and a dining hall etc. and the estimated cost of the new hostel building is Rs.40 Lakhs.

At present there are 60 students in the school and the school provides hostel facilities to about 40 inmates. The school also cater to the transportation needs of those that are from nearby villages.

With the new hostel building Prerana Special School can accommodate more boys. Prerana is the only special school for the differently-abled children for a number of villages around Kalmeshwar, a small town 26 Kilometers off Nagpur city, where STOTS is also situated. All students of Prerana Special School are from poor socio-economic backgrounds of the society.

A well trained and highly dedicated team of teachers give vocational training to the students and the functioning of the school is sustained by the generous contributions of people all around the globe.

Fr. Dr. Bijesh Philip of STOTS Nagpur initiated the founding of Prerana Special School in October, 2001. Hardships of mentally challenged children and their parents motivated Fr. Bijesh Philip to venture this altruistic act.

Fr. K.S. George is presently serving as the Director or Prerana Special School and Fr. Philipose Venattu is the treasurer.
