DUBAI: “No one shall be denied treatment over lack of funds at St. Gregorios International Cancer Care Centre Parumala”, said the Metropolitan of Calcutta and Assistant Metropolitan of Delhi Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius and the CEO of Parumala Hospital Fr. Alexander Koodarathil at a press conference at Dubai.

“Facilities for free diagnosis of cancer is planned to be developed at Parumala”, Fr. Koodarathil informed. “It is also planned to make Malayalee doctors as well as foreign centers co-operate with this project for cancer treatment to provide state of the art world class facilities to fight against cancer in Kerala. When completed, this centre will be one of the five main cancer treatment facilities in Asia”, Fr. Koodarathil continued.

“This Cancer Centre is the gift of Malankara Orthodox Church to Kerala and India at large on the occasion of the Centenary of Establishment of Catholicte in India, namely in 2012” Fr. Koodarathil affirmed.

Statistics state that there are 40,000 new cancer patients in Kerala every year and the number climbs to 900,000 in India. Every cancer detection camp under the leadership of the hospital detects two to three cancer patients and if detected early expenses for cancer treatment can be heavily reduced.

It is with the help of Churches, firms and individuals from all over the world that this centre is being eructed. People can contribute as well as buy redeemable bonds to co-operate with this project. Those, who co-operate financially, can also refer patients to the hospital as well.

The project boasts a 350,000 square feet building with 450 beds. This hospital was founded three and a half decades back with a vision to provide treatment to poor patients of the locality. At present the planning is for a Medical City that includes a world class Cardio Vascular Centre headed by world famous cardio vascular surgeon Dr. K.M. Cherian, a De-addiction Centre, and Mar Osthathios Palliative Services (MOPS).

Vicar of St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral Fr. Biju P. Thomas, Assistant Vicar Fr. Pathrose Joy, and Malankara Managing Committee Member Jacob Mathew attended the press conference along with Fr. Koodarathil and Mar Dionysius.
