KOTTAYAM: With special prayers and worship, Indian Orthodox Christians across the globe are gearing up to celebrate Easter Sunday.
Special worship services began on palm Sunday, known as Lord Jesus Christ’s glorious entry in to Jerusalem. At least for 3 times a day in this week worship services will be conducted in churches.
On Maundy Thursday the church commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.
Starting Palm Sunday, devout Christians spend a lot of time every day in prayers at home and in church.
With Maundy Thursday’s service over, preparations are being made at all churches for the Good Friday worship services.
The Friday service symbolises the crucifiction of Jesus Christ, through which the redumtion of the world becomes a reality.
The Good Fiday service begins around 8 a.m. and goes on till 3 p.m, when the parishioners have kanji with mango pickle.
Holy Saturday is the day of comemorating Lords entry into sheol in spirit and preaching of the gospel to the departed ones. It is more or less a preparation for the Easter Services. The Easter services and Holy Qurbana takes place on Sunday. Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead on this day – the third day after his crucifiction.
