PARUMALA: The five priest Metropolitan Elects took the vow of monasticism at Parumala Seminary on Sunday, March 21, 2010. Fr. Dr. John Mathews, Fr. V.M. James, Fr. Dr. Sabu Kuriakose, Fr. Dr. George Pulikkottil and Fr. Dr. V.M. Abraham are the five priests, who professed as Rambans at the sacred ground, where St. Gregorios of Parumala spend the lion share of his prayerful ascetic life.

The Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Didymos I was the chief celebrant for the services. Catholicos Elect Paulose Mar Milithios, Kuriakose Mar Clemis, Zachariah Mar Anthonios, Dr. Mathews Mar Severios, Paulose Mar Pachomios, Dr. Mathews Mar Thimotheos, and Abraham Mar Epiphanios have assisted the Catholicos in the long services, which began at 7 a.m. and ended at 1.30 p.m.

Fr. Dr. John Mathews was called to become Fr. Youhanon Ramban. Similarly Fr. V.M. James became Fr. Yakob Ramban, Fr. Dr. Sabu Kuriakose became Fr. Zacharias Ramban, Fr. Dr. George Pulikkottil became Fr. Geevarghese Ramban and Fr. V.M. Abraham became Fr. Abraham Ramban.

During the services the Catholicose blessed the candidates by giving them the monastic head covering or Schema (Masnaphsa), which they all put on as symbol of total renunciation of the world. Their feet were washed to mean that they have to tread a complete different path from now on. At the end of the service, each of them was vested with a wooden cross as well to mean that their life has transformed to a new one, where suffering and abstinence have more to do with.

Catholicos Elect Paulose Mar Milithios said the prayer of blessing and Dr. Mathews Mar Severios conducted the sermon. A great multitude of faithful and a number of priests and deacons from all over the Church witnessed the blessed event. On Wednesday, May 12th the Holy Synod under leadership of the Catholicos will consecrate all seven Elects as Metropolitans at Mar Elia Cathedral, Kottayam.
