NEW JERSEY: As relief assistance progressing in Haiti, organizations working there, are requesting monetary donations, not material goods at this point. Donations will go directly toward medical and basic supplies which can save a life. How fast we can act, that would count in saving lives, out there in Haiti.

In response to the Catholicos call, the North east American Metropolitan, had already sent out a Kalpana to all his Churches to mobilize a relief fund from all its faithful by this Sunday.

Since Church efforts may take some time, those still wanting to help in a small way immediately can text from their cell phone the word ‘Haiti’ to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross. The money will go directly to relief efforts in Haiti.

First Lady Michelle Obama also released a Public Service Announcement asking people to join her in supporting the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti:

“The images from Haiti are heart-breaking—homes, hospitals and schools destroyed; families searching for loved ones; parents trying to feed their children. But we can all do something. We can help the American Red Cross as it delivers the food, water and medicine that can save lives. Donate $10 by texting “HAITI” to 9-0-9-9-9. Visit or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. Thanks for your help.”
