Gulf Orthodox Youth Conference – 2009 in Muscat Concluded Successfully

MUSCAT: The 4th Orthodox Youth Conference of Gulf region concluded successfully at St. Thomas Church, Ruwi (Mar Theodosius Nagar) on December 1- 2, 2009.

The theme for the conference was “The Boundaries and Beyond”. Over 600 delegates from various Gulf Countries participated in the conference.

OCYM President Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos (Metropolitan, Angamaly diocese), Geevarghese Mar Coorilos (Metropolitan, Mumbai & Ahmedabad diocese) and Dr.Yuhanon Mar Militius (OCYM former President & Metropolitan, Thrissur diocese) graced the occasion with their presence and leadership.

Fr. Spencer Koshy (OCYM General Secretary), Fr. Dr. Jossi Jacob, Fr. Saji Mathew (Bahrain), Fr. Biju Varghese (Ras-Al Khaima), Fr. Saju Padachira (Salalah), Fr. Varghese George (Muscat) and Fr. James Geevarghese (Vicar Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church, Muscat) were the leaders of the conference. Sabha Secretary Dr. George Joseph was the guest of honor at the conference.

Maintaining essential boundaries, still crossing them to reach the humanity large, was the keynote of all the speeches. Presentations based on the theme, classes, Group Discussions, doubt clearing sessions and Reviews were the highlights of the conference.

Unit wise reports by youth members, Talent Display and melodious songs by choir members from different churches added color and vigor to the conference.

For the closing ceremony on the 2nd day H.E. Anil Wadhwa, Indian Ambassador to Oman and H.E. Shaikh Amour Al Rashdi, Director of Religious Affairs & Ministry of Awqaf in Oman were the chief guests of honor along with other dignitaries. The guests opined that such conferences were congenial to uphold Christian values.

The function ended with recitation of the Catholicate hymn, prayer and benediction.
