
NEW JERSEY: Junior Chmaber International recognized and conferred the Award for Building Global Brotherhood to Alex Koshy Vilanilaam, leader of World Malayalee Council and an Indian American who has contributed immensely to the welfare of the community.
Junior Chmaber is a worldwide youth organization having its footprints in more than 135 countries.
Alex V. Koshy migrated to US in 1990. He joined with few other prominent Indians to form the World Malayalee Council In the year 1995. Today it has over 45 Provinces in different countries where Keralites have migrated to or gainfully employed. He was the founder General Secretary of this global networking organization and then was elected as the Global President during 2006-2008.
The World Malayalee Council is an NGO and is doing a number of humanitarian activities for the benefit of the economically challenged people of Kerala and in the remote villages of Africa. One major achievement was his advocacy for passing a Pravasee Property Protection Bill in the Indian parliament. The government has taken it up for introducing in parliament.
In 1998 he partnered with leading academics and scientists to establish the International Institute for Scientific & Academic Collaboration. This institute promotes India and Kerala in particular among the universities in US and sends American college students to Indian universities for semester programs.
The Governors of New Jersey reappointed him three times as a Commissioner to the Board of Dr. Martin Luther King Commission of the State.
The award was presented at the Zone conference Souhrudam hosted by JCI Changanacherry.
