LOS ANGELES: St. Gregorios Orthodox Church located in Bellflower celebrated its first Parish Feast and the 107 Memorial Feast of its Patron, St. Gregorios of Parumala on Saturday, October 31, 2009. The Perunnal was held at Our Savior Lutheran Church Bellflower.
On the Perunnal day, Morning, Holy Qurbana (Moonninmel) was celebrated. Fr. Slomo George, Arizona was the chief celebrant at the Moonninmel Qurbana. Fr. Mathai Alakkot, San Jose and Fr. Philip Abraham, Los Angeles were the co- celebrants.
A big crowd from neighboring parishes attended the Perunnal and intercessory prayer on Perunnal day.
Fr. Mathai Alakkot delivered the Perunnal message. “We don’t see Parumala Thirumeni equal to God. However, he is a mediator between us as the Lord Almighty’” Fr. Mathai Alakkot said. His speech was focusing on the importance of intercessory prayers to the saints of the church.
Special intercessory prayers and ceremonial procession (Rassa) were held thereafter. The Rassa was accompanied by chenda melam. “O Saint Gregorios of Parumala, pray for us,” the crowd recited all over the procession. The recitations and songs sanctified the surrounding atmosphere with great joy and blessings, which were symbolic to the Parumala Church, located on the bank of Pamaba River.
Nercha lunch and harvest auction sale were followed thereafter. The Perunnal was concluded officially by lowering the flag at around 2:00 p.m.
The Perunnal Committee worked very hard under the leadership of Fr. Philip Abraham. Mathai Polachira, Vivek Nambiar, P.T. Thomas, K.C. Jacob, Lalu Kurian, Saji George, Varghese Chacko, and Pothen Thekkuveettil were the other members in the committee.
