LOS ANGELS: The first pastoral visit of Alexios Mar Eusebios, the new Metropolitan of the newly established South-west American Diocese, to the St. Gregorios Orthodox Congregation, Bellflower, Los Angeles becomes a memorable event for the parishioners.
During his pastoral visit, the Metropolitan declared St. Gregorios congregation as a fully independent parish under the South-west American Diocese.
On September 26, 2009, the parish members gave a warm welcome to the Metropolitan upon his arrival. A colorful ceremonial procession was arranged at the entrance of Our Savior Lutheran Church to welcome their new shepherd. At the church entrance, Chacko Varghese welcomed the Metropolitan with a bouquet.
After the Holy Qurbana, the Metropolitan declared the congregation as an independent parish and appointed Fr. Philip Abraham as the vicar of the new parish St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Bellflower. The entire congregation received this announcement by clapping their hands with great joy and happiness.
Thereafter in the public meeting, Fr. Philip Abraham presided over. Metropolitan Alexios Mar Eusebios inaugurated the function.
Mathai Polichira, the Treasurer of the parish expressed his gratitude to the Metropolitan in declaring the congregation as an independent parish. Saji George, Shawn Abraham, Ms. Susan Jacob and Nishi Thomas spoke on the occasion.
A Felicitation Scroll (Mangala Pathram- authored and sang by Johnson Kangazha) was presented to the Metropolitan on behalf of the parish. The Metropolitan also inaugurated the launching of the parish web site on the occasion.
St. Gregorios congregation was established in 2006 with an order from the then Metropolitan Mathews Mar Barnabas, under the leadership of Fr. Philip Abraham.
